It’s not often that I get asked to do creatives with the family of the bride and groom but every single time I’ve done it, I ask myself why I don’t do it more. Scroll on down and see it! HA! Yes, I am bragging, but it’s only because families are awesome. There is so much nuance and history that even a slight look between siblings or parents, will send everyone into hysterics. And now that I’m a mom, I know that no matter how old my boys get, I will probably still want to kiss their cheeks. What better time to do that, then on their wedding day… Just sayin…. We used Sandy Beach for creatives for the bridal party and it has been SO long since I’ve been. I absolutely loved shooting there, with so many options for backdrop. It was a glorious summer day in Calgary for a beautiful wedding.

This was a special fall day because a week earlier, Calgary was covered in SO much snow. L told me that J had offered to shovel the snow from the Ranche lawn, so that they could get married outside. If that’s not true love, I don’t know what is. But Calgary being Calgary, well, we got some sunshine and just like that, the snow disappeared and we got what we all love, an exquisite Autumn day for a gorgeous Ranche wedding between two awesome people.

K, so let’s just start with the fact that this incredible wedding had a drum circle. The rhythmic beating of the drums by almost everyone in attendance was unreal. I don’t think I’ll ever forget it. Then lets zero in on the cuteness overload that is J + J. Ohmyword, these two. They wanted a no fuss type day surrounded by their friends and family, and that just makes my entire soul happy. I want to capture authenticity, realness and these two, and their smiling and loving guests were exactly that.

I always get really excited when I get a proposal request. It’s probably the ultimate adrenaline rush for a scaredy cat like me. I won’t sky dive or bungee jump, but I will hide in a bush or behind a wall with my heart thumping out of my chest, aiming for the perfect images of a once in a lifetime moment. There are no do-overs, and the rush is intense! R contacted me and detailed a very elaborate plan for his girlfriend. She owns an AirB&B management company and he booked an appointment with her under a different name, under the guise of having her check out the property for potential management. It was a fantastic idea and when I arrived, the care and thought he had put into the room took my breath away. I loved how nervous he was… I don’t think I’ve experienced what someone goes through when asking the person they love to marry them. It was exhilarating! My glasses kept fogging from my own stress and from the emotion that filled the room when she entered. He just knows her. God, he KNOWS her. It was perfect and they laughed and they hugged and it was beautiful. Of course she said yes. And of course, she had to make sense of what was actually happening, considering she thought she was meeting a potential client. He thought of everything, and I could not resist getting some lysol wipes in the picture as this is love in the time of Covid.

The hazy days of summer are upon us and I couldn’t be more excited! This Canmore elopement was just perfect, set in the valley amidst bright blue skies, golden grasses and those majestic mountains. The river was a welcome sight as it cooled us off on this hot summer day. I adore working with children, and combining them with a wedding, well it is just the best!
