The pylon wasn’t planned. I swear. So why then? Well, when you’re walking by said pylon and your couple gleefully reminisce about their first date when they, ahem, borrowed a giant one…. well, you shoot it. That orange cone was probably the deciding factor in their romance. Ok maybe not, but it added an element of fun and danger to that date and I’m sure it helped a little. So yeah. It wasn’t planned but it’s cool right? Kirsten and Taylor are a fun, awesome couple. The type of people I want to hang around just because they make me laugh and their personalities are so bright and cheerful. I can see why they get along so well, why they love each other. Laughter is always something I need and crave and I think when you can laugh together, you can overcome any obstacle. It’s my husband’s and my greatest marriage attribute, at least in my opinion anyhow. I loved seeing these two move together and they just fit together, very little direction from me and they just snuggled in close. Thanks for braving the cold! It was worth it!!

It’s so dark now that winter is on its way. And so as I sit here editing Rachel and Clint’s beautiful wedding day, I am trying to soak in as much of the beautiful warmth and glow as possible. Truly, they could not have asked for a better day. Brilliant blue sky with puffy white clouds, it was a little slice of heaven that is for sure. I was particularly excited for their wedding because we scouted out some brand new spots and found a great location on the river. We based these new locations on the fact that Clint proposed in the area so I loved that it was especially significant for them. The ceremony and reception was held at Springbank Links golf course just outside Calgary. I loved the log cabin feel inside the room and it certainly makes for an awesome indoor space. The little touches that Rachel put together for the decor were wonderful, her love of books and reading made for great centerpieces and I enjoyed doing something a bit different for their ring shots. I hope you enjoy this look into a perfect day in every way. Until next time!

Sarah & Jordan -engaged! {Calgary wedding photographer}

Okay, let’s be clear. The jumping high-five isn’t my typical engagement repertoire but for Sarah and Jordan it was a must. I actually like the beginning of a portrait session when there’s a bit of anxious chatter and normally something along the lines of “I don’t really like having my picture taken”. It’s almost a game for me now, something I strive to reverse in as short a time possible. I now know that everyone is a little nervous, no one really enjoys having a camera in their face, but that I can make it fun and as natural as possible. I love seeing the progression over a session and it makes me feel awesome knowing that I can lead people through a process. So back to the jumping high five shall we? In an engagement session, or any session for that matter, I want to capture true relationships and emotion. So I will often tell a couple to do something and then wait for a few moments just to see what they do. Sarah and Jordan were certainly no different, but what I especially loved was overhearing Sarah joking about whether they should jump and highfive. Oh yes. yes. You should definitely do that. I loved the comment and thought it would be fitting and fun for a cool couple like them. So no, no jumping high fives for just anyone, but if you want to and it fits, then you bet.

I’ve known Kait since she was a little girl and I have to say it was exciting to see her again after so many years. These photos were to represent and honor a temporary move out West to be at school and I think they are very Alberta indeed. I mean, how lucky to get a train passing through? I remember my inlaws (from Scotland) marveling at how long our trains are, for the simple reason that our country is so expansive and can allow for the length. It was a perfect evening, the kind that only happens once in a while, magic even. So magic that I completely lost track of time and instead just followed the lead of the setting sun and my lens. Pure bliss. Ryan and Kait are simply adorable and I am so happy to have captured this very special moment in their lives. Enjoy!

I love unique weddings and Julia and Taylor’s was certainly no exception. Of particular interest to me was the fact that we were able to split the creatives between Canmore and Cochrane. Good morning mountains, good afternoon foothills, so amazing! There was so much effort put into all the details, even a signature cocktail drink. I think what stuck with me most was the beautiful display asking guests to highlight their favourite bible verse, and I say this as someone who isn’t even particularly religious! I just found it so lovely and can imagine Julia and Taylor cozying up together enjoying the highlighted words together. It was a spectacular day filled with lots of love and sunshine. Cochrane Ranchehouse served as the perfect backdrop for this perfect wedding.
