Cue the awe and wonder when we pulled into Bragg Creek and there was more snow than I’ve ever seen this close to Calgary. It was SO exciting and J+J were just as excited. I had heard that this spot had lots of snow but wow, we were (snow)blown away!!! So excited to photograph their summer wedding at the Pomeroy Kananaskis Lodge!
It was one of those days that rained pretty much everywhere except for where we wanted to be. In other words, this Moraine Lake engagement session was pretty darn perfect. Jessica and Justin were just adorable and up for anything, navigating rock shores and floating logs, climbing rocks and a bit of hiking. The way the sun hit them in this shot below is something that doesn’t happen often, the stars aligning in all the right ways. Magic! It’s what I love so much about photography, creating the best image I can with what I have but also being so thankful for the magical moments from the stuff I can’t control (cloud cover, temperature, weather etc) Moraine Lake is such an ideal place for an engagement session, elopement or wedding. I need to be shooting here more often, so do get in touch! I can’t wait to hear from you.
Whenever possible, I love when the location is meaningful. It could be for a small reason or a big one, but the connection is always important to me. My photography stems from connection; connection to each other and connection to the land. It’s what makes my heart sing. I haven’t been down to Bowmont Park for quite some time so I was excited when Leah suggested it as a possibility since she grew up down the street and would spend time there as a kid. I love the wooden pathways and the trees and I knew that the sunset would be pretty epic on the bluff. Leah lit up when we got to the waterfall, and yes it is definitely a waterfall (ha) and I knew that we had to use it. I loved Leah and Nolan’s dynamic and I could tell there is just so much respect, trust and love between them. We laughed and we hiked and we got our feet wet and it was all worth it. I hope you enjoy this Calgary engagement session. I can’t wait for their Winter wedding at the Glenbow Museum!
I love a love story. And Carrie and Marvin’s is quite exceptional; They are from the same city and yet only met across the world from that city while attending the University of Calgary. Unfortunately, just after their engagement session, Carrie was leaving Calgary for the UK to continue her schooling for the next few years while Marvin stayed behind. My husband and I met in the States and so long distance is something I know very well; my heart aches for them, knowing exactly how it feels to be a world apart from the love of your life. I adored working with these two, and I have to give a shout out to Carrie’s parents who wheeled her suitcase of clothing options around and held my gear when I needed. Carrie’s mom was particularly adorable with her selfie stick, taking videos and pictures as we went. I think about them often and wish them the best!
Karolyn and Joey live for the mountains and just generally the outdoors. It was only fitting to photograph their engagement session in the most beautiful spot we have, Moraine Lake. The water was rather low (thankfully it filled right up the next week) but it made for some cool shore walks and a bit of bravado as we borrowed a canoe for a few shots. (which we of course put right back) I loved how they would speak french to each other and sometimes even to me, though I don’t understand a word. It’s lovely and intimate and just makes me wish I could speak another language. We spent a long time along the banks of Moraine Lake but then ventured upwards to the sky for some spectacular overhead shots with the majestic mountains. It was a stunning day and I’m so happy to share it with you.
I got to spend a glorious fall evening with these two at Ralph Klein Memorial Park and it was wonderful! Especially as I look out my window, a week later, at the snow covering the ground. Every year it always seems like a race to shoot as much as I can before the snow flies, but I am hoping we’ll get a little more fall, I have more leaves to shoot! Kirsten and Steven decided to celebrate their one year anniversary with a photoshoot and I couldn’t think of a more perfect way to do so, though I admit, I’m totally biased. We had a great time walking around the park and if you haven’t been, I totally recommend it. Enjoy a little sneak-peek into this Calgary anniversary session!
