I was excited about this wedding from the start. Not only do I adore shooting in Banff and especially up at Buffalo Mountain Lodge, but I was able to reconnect with a fellow ahem, band nerd from high school. Yes, I played the oboe and so did Darus, just a year younger than me. It’s a rare instrument to play and so there’s always a bit of a bond between fellow oboists so the fact that Darus came walking into my office was the best surprise after speaking with Brent to set up the meeting. The day was chill and casual and I really liked that it seemed very fitting for these guys. They wanted a party and they wanted to celebrate with their friends and family. I think picking a venue with its own wine cellar and an amazing menu was a superb choice. One of my favourite parts of a wedding is the speeches. I know that some people want them over with as soon as possible (the bar is closed, I’m assuming) but I always gain a ton more insight into my couples. I love hearing stories and seeing the connections. Darus and Brent’s family and friends certainly delivered and I think we were all wiping away tears. I remember looking at the picture of Darus and his mom hugging after her speech and thinking ‘this is why I do this.’ I was so moved and looking through their pictures I still am. You both are meant for each other, it is in the pictures, it is in the connection, that is a fact. Congrats and enjoy!

Very nice pictures. This moment in time was definitely captured for them and those that were not there.
