I love hearing the stories of my clients’ lives, where they met, and certainly what they love to do together as hobbies or interests. Sometimes, for engagement sessions, it’s really just a matter of finding a beautiful place. But sometimes, it’s the perfect opportunity to incorporate those interests into an engagement session. For Rachael and Jeff, they find themselves attending concerts by the Calgary Philharmonic Orchestra on a regular basis. And for me, a former oboist and a general fan of the area around Arts Commons in downtown Calgary, I thought it would be a perfect place to start their session. Rachael also loves one of the beautiful libraries downtown so we made the session a bit of a ‘walking tour’ of the downtown area and we kid of just flew by the seat of our pants. We even found ourselves inside the Palliser Hotel and I think it fit perfectly with their classic look, a bit of old Hollywood I’d say. When we got to the library, Rachael showed me her stunning quilt which she had made herself and together they had chosen the fabrics for it. I am always in awe of people who have the skill and patience for such detailed work. I tried my hand at cross-stitch last year and although I did find it beautifully monotonous (almost meditative!), I didn’t have the patience to continue beyond my original idea. It was such a beautiful night and I felt like the spontaneous nature of the shoot was really inspiring. I am very much looking forward to their winter wedding at Heritage Park! Hope you enjoy the images as much as I do!
