My most favourite colour combo is grey and yellow. In fact, I just decorated our master bedroom with those colours and I am SO happy. I just adored the combo for Sandra and Shawn’s wedding- they blended the two so well: from the converse to the socks to the handmade bags from Etsy to the floral arrangements from Blue Hydrangea in Inglewood. The attention to detail was magnificent on this beautiful fall day. Sandra and Shawn chose to do their creatives prior to the ceremony which included one of my wedding day favourites: the first glance. For those that may not be aware, the first glance is when the bride gets to surprise her groom (however she likes) and together they get to share an extended first moment together. It certainly is not traditional, and it is not for everyone, but I do think that if “the moment” is something that is important, then a first glance can definitely document it to it’s fullest. The moment when the bride and groom see each other is wonderful no matter what, however a first glance can take away any jitters as well as offering the opportunity to be alone in an intimate setting; often it’s just me and the couple.

After the first glance, we had a terrific creatives session utilizing some location gems I’ve found along the way. When I look outside and all I see is ice and snow, I yearn for the bright sunlight and brilliant leaves of this wedding. I attend a lot of weddings and at the very end of the ceremony, Sandra and Shawn had a little ritual that I have never heard of, nor seen. It is called the winebox ceremony. In a wooden box are two bottles of wine and at the end of the ceremony, they placed a letter for the other in the box and closed the lock. They are to either open the box, drink the wine and read the letters on their 5th wedding anniversary OR during a time of extreme relationship duress. I loved it and wish I had heard about it so I thought I’d share it here. Sandra and Shawn’s wedding ended my summer season and it was a great one to go out with. Enjoy! x

Shawn’s one and ONLY request was this shot. Hear no evil. See no evil. Speak no evil. You’re welcome Shawn!

I just have to say that it would have been amazing to see the look on my face when I saw the vintage cars. You see, Randi and Brad and I had been emailing back and forth discussing their engagement session and their desire to use their friend’s farm and his ‘old cars.’ I was absolutely on board and really excited. In my head, we were using rusted, beat up klunkers in a junk yard on that friend’s farm. But when I pulled up to the gates of a palatial farm and an entire row of gleaming vintage beauties, I was awestruck. Now don’t get me wrong, I was still over the moon, these cars are GORGEOUS- but it is exactly the opposite of what was in my head. It took me a moment to recalculate and revise and then I was on my way to having the best time ever. I really adore these two, and especially Brad who was exceptionally excited for the shoot and up for anything that I asked. I cannot wait to shoot their New Year’s Eve wedding at the Calgary Zoo!

All you need is LOVE! love love is all you neeeeeeeeeed…. I have been singing that song ever since the wedding. In fact, when I got home I youtubed the song so I didn’t have to listen to my horrible tones. You see, Rebecca’s dad belongs to a barbershop singing group and together they plotted for a really a big SURPRISE for James and all the guests. They pulled off one of the coolest, choreographed flash singing mobs ever! I was so enthralled that I had to keep telling myself to continue shooting! All this after a fitting and perfected dance down the aisle. When I heard the music change to start the processional all I could think was “Yes. Of course she is dancing down the aisle!”

I’ve known Rebecca for quite a few years as we are teammates on the same soccer team. James, er, Coach James as he is affectionately known , is also our assistant coach. So I was beyond thrilled to book their wedding, knowing that Becks and James throw some awesome parties and that Ragazze, our soccer team, would be there “killing it on the d-floor”. (Soooo not my words!! HA!) Soccer is something that Rebecca and James live everything single day. I believe that red was chosen as the main colour to signify James’ love for Liverpool. And we always marvel that James’ idea of dressing up was to wear a collared soccer jersey. It was only fitting then that a soccer ball was used in their creatives. I do have to say, even in a wedding dress, Rebecca still had the moves. All in all, it was a day that reflected the couple to a tee and stayed true to who they were, as individuals and together as newlyweds.

Mandi and Ryan’s wedding day was bright, colourful and full of glittery goodness. In fact, I would say it was a perfect reflection of who they are, well, especially who Mandi is! (I’m not sure if Ryan would appreciate being labeled as bright, colourful and glittery) There was a lot of work put in to the decor and details and even the props. But to top it all off, there was a tremendous amount of love, not only between the newlyweds, but from the surrounding friends and family. I especially loved the addition of the storytelling aspect to their ceremony. I really enjoyed listening to the stories of how they met, who they are, and how the proposal went- I think it was great as either everyone forgets how it all started, or they didn’t really know in the first place! Plus it offered up some fab opportunities for big laughter and smiles. Congrats to Mandi and Ryan, thank you for allowing me to capture your day. I loved being your photographer!
