The pylon wasn’t planned. I swear. So why then? Well, when you’re walking by said pylon and your couple gleefully reminisce about their first date when they, ahem, borrowed a giant one…. well, you shoot it. That orange cone was probably the deciding factor in their romance. Ok maybe not, but it added an element of fun and danger to that date and I’m sure it helped a little. So yeah. It wasn’t planned but it’s cool right? Kirsten and Taylor are a fun, awesome couple. The type of people I want to hang around just because they make me laugh and their personalities are so bright and cheerful. I can see why they get along so well, why they love each other. Laughter is always something I need and crave and I think when you can laugh together, you can overcome any obstacle. It’s my husband’s and my greatest marriage attribute, at least in my opinion anyhow. I loved seeing these two move together and they just fit together, very little direction from me and they just snuggled in close. Thanks for braving the cold! It was worth it!!

Just as I sat down to write this post, the words to “it’s a small world” started swirling their annoying little verses around my head. Not a fun lyrical version, more like the disneyland ride.  Ok, I know, I know, now the song is probably trapped inside your head too. Let’s move on. The reason for this is that upon my arrival to photograph the “boys” getting ready, I realized I knew one of the um, “boys”, well girl. To my absolute delight, I had played college soccer with Kevin’s groomslady. It was culminated by an overly excessive hello as my brain tried to process if and how I knew her and once we figured it out, it was indeed a small small world. The Cochrane Ranche House is a favourite location of mine, not only for weddings but also for engagement and family sessions. It has everything, right in a 10 minute vicinity. I can’t say enough about how much I love shooting there and how much fun I had with Sharon, Kevin and their amazing bridal party. We decided to trek to the end of the park in some pretty hot weather and I have some serious kudos for everyone for being so upbeat and into it. I really liked our little journey. The Ranche House has done some renovations this season and they are very much a wonderful addition. I adore the ceremony space and the new seating. And of course the grand reception room is breathtaking. So SO much fun to shoot all the incredible details. I could tell that there were immeasurable hours spent putting it all together.

I’ve known Kait since she was a little girl and I have to say it was exciting to see her again after so many years. These photos were to represent and honor a temporary move out West to be at school and I think they are very Alberta indeed. I mean, how lucky to get a train passing through? I remember my inlaws (from Scotland) marveling at how long our trains are, for the simple reason that our country is so expansive and can allow for the length. It was a perfect evening, the kind that only happens once in a while, magic even. So magic that I completely lost track of time and instead just followed the lead of the setting sun and my lens. Pure bliss. Ryan and Kait are simply adorable and I am so happy to have captured this very special moment in their lives. Enjoy!

I love unique weddings and Julia and Taylor’s was certainly no exception. Of particular interest to me was the fact that we were able to split the creatives between Canmore and Cochrane. Good morning mountains, good afternoon foothills, so amazing! There was so much effort put into all the details, even a signature cocktail drink. I think what stuck with me most was the beautiful display asking guests to highlight their favourite bible verse, and I say this as someone who isn’t even particularly religious! I just found it so lovely and can imagine Julia and Taylor cozying up together enjoying the highlighted words together. It was a spectacular day filled with lots of love and sunshine. Cochrane Ranchehouse served as the perfect backdrop for this perfect wedding.

Sandra & Shawn -Engaged! {Cochrane engagement and wedding photographer}

I love referrals! Sandra and Shawn are friends of Amie and Brandon who I photographed this summer. I was beyond thrilled for them to choose me as their photographer, I really cannot ask for a better compliment and validation that I am definitely on the right track! We had a beauty of an evening in early August and lots of quick wit from Shawn. Meeting these two at their consult,  spending the entire time either laughing together or laughing AT Shawn, I knew we would get along just great. Cannot wait for their Calgary Zoo wedding coming up soon!
