There’s a really special time of year when the light is at its peak and Calgary and area turns into the most perfect playground. Everywhere you look, light is dancing and glowing and just generally awe-inspiring. I love shooting in the fall, it’s sort of that one last hurrah of gold and sunshine before the blue hues of winter set in. Meagan and Matt’s wedding is set for this summer in Invermere (in a BARN!!!!) and judging by how much fun we had shooting their engagement session, their wedding will be a Blast!!

Frances and Tim live in Bowness and so it was very important to them to showcase their favourite community in their creatives. Especially after the Flood ravaged so much of the community. I couldn’t have asked for a more dramatic sky and beautiful light! Their ceremony and reception was held at the Ranche down in Fish Creek Park. As a teenager I would walk my dog past the Ranche and fantasize about holding my wedding there and hiring a horse drawn carriage to take us away in…. But I digress… It’s a magical venue and one that is always swarming with photographers and their clients, which basically translates to it being one of the most perfect settings for photography. I always say it’s like a photographer’s playground down there. I loved how Frances decorated the reception, the vintage tea cups were so sweet and so perfect in the rustic dining room. I think one of my favourite details was the Jenga block guest book; I adore these ideas that gets your guestbook out of a book and into something you can use or see. Love it!

You know what makes a wedding photographer cringe a wee bit? Finding out the Colour Me Rad run is the same location as the one you chose for your couple’s wedding creatives. For those unaware of what Colour Me Rad is, it’s where powdered paint is thrown on runners as they sweat their way through 5km. So yeah, coloured paint… beautiful white gown…. tons of extra people…. oi. But thankfully an earlier check of the location assured me that we would be able to access our locations and it was far away from the actual race. It ended up being pretty great as the music was blaring and there were lots of happy people around, luckily staying far away from us! Stacey and Ben chose a small intimate ceremony with only the closest family members and then opened their dinner and reception up to the larger crowd, it was a lovely, beautiful day. The wedding was held at Valley Ridge Golf Course and it’s a gorgeous venue- lots of big windows overlooking the course and there are tons of fabulous locations in the area for creatives. It’s definitely a favourite spot in the city for me.

I wish their dog liked me more. But alas, she only has eyes for her parents. I am so happy to have met her though as she really is just the cutest weiner dog I’ve seen!! Luckily her parents, Frances and Tim, love me so we had a great shoot! The night was filled with yummy light and that beautiful late July glow and a gorgeous couple of course. Can’t wait for their August wedding! It’s so soon!
