Jessica & Devin -married! {calgary wedding photographer}

Jessica and Devin are both archaeologists. Yep, that’s right. They actually dig stuff up and use those tiny paintbrushes and find really cool old artifacts. Besides the engagement story, getting to know my couples, what they do, how they met etc is a favourite part of my job. I get to be nosy I guess, but it’s 100% necessary! We had a beautiful day, albeit a bit windy, but that always just adds drama. Instead of fighting with the wind, we just worked with it, letting it blow through the dresses and creating sweeping lines and movements. I loved the look that Jessica created, the soft simple hair and bold lips. Everyone that saw her remarked how beautifully perfect she looked, that it was just “so her.” I really liked that she didn’t pretend or stray far from who she is on her wedding day. I know Devin appreciated that, maybe minus the lipstick marks on his cheek 🙂

The one thing I’ll take from this session, besides Nicole and Ed just being so darn cute, is that they fit together perfectly. I can’t say I’ve seen any other couple just fit and move together better than them. It’s like Nicole and Ed are puzzle pieces and every time I posed them, it was that Eureka! moment when you place the pieces together. Needless to say, they made the shoot effortless and Mother Nature cooperated, as she does in the late spring, with her golden casts and beautiful weather.

Oh the return of the golden light. How sweet it is. And what a treat for a photographer to shoot such a lovely couple in such a lovely setting. I really can’t ask for more. Ashley requested we start at Knox United Church as her grandparents were married there. Unfortunately, there were no photographs as it would have been cool to recreate the posing, but it was still a special location to commemorate her love for them. We moved on to Inglewood just in time for the beautiful golden hour and it certainly didn’t disappoint.

More dogs! More love! More happiness! I am one blessed photographer with so many incredible couples. Charlene and Riley’s dog is named Butters. How cool is that? I do wonder what they shorten the name to though. We have so many nicknames for our dog Fenway I’m not sure if he even knows what his name is. We had a great time shooting just outside downtown Calgary, so much space for Butters to run. It was so captivating watching him bound and leap for his frisbee and so lovely to see how happy he made his “parents”. Charlene and Riley’s wedding is slated for this fall out in Kananaskis Country at the Delta Lodge.

I adore working with Kari from Knot Planning and love the couples she brings me. I was referred to Deanne and Brad through Kari and it was an incredible match from the very beginning. I loved hearing about Brad’s proposal at Vin Room, and so after a conversation with the manager, we were given permission to shoot there. Their ease and playfulness with each other made my job so easy. I gave practically no direction and just let them be them. I love that. It’s what I strive for most in my photography. I want my couples true personalities, true relationship to shine through.
