Best of the Best Year Yet! {Calgary wedding and portrait photography}

When 2012 was nearing, there were lots of comments about saying good riddance to 2011. I get that, some years are definitely better than others. For me though, 2011 was by far one of my most favourite EVER. And that’s including my personal and professional lives. Coming into 2012, I feel really alive, like I can conquer anything and I hope to continue to ride that feeling well into the future. 2011 was a very cool year. I traveled A LOT. My wedding photography took me to Whonnock Lake in beautiful British Columbia, brought me back home to the city and the mountains numerous times and sent me allllll the way to Scotland and Vermont. This year I witnessed not one, but TWO proposals; one of them was my own brother’s, the other I can’t share yet. I’ve met so many beautiful families and couples and have loved being included in their lives. If 2012 is anything like 2011, well, bring it on! Enjoy this (a bit random) look into my favourite engagement and wedding images from the past year.

Martina and Robin’s wedding was one of those perfect summer days; the kind of day that you yearn for during those dark, cold winter months. I had the absolute pleasure of having the talented Erin Wallace of Erin Wallace Photography second shoot for me that day and we basically spent the entire creatives time making excitable, albeit a bit weird, noises at how awesome the light was and how beautiful our images were. My favourite memory of the day was from the dance when we were all introduced to a traditional german dance party-see below. It was wild and I really couldn’t stop laughing and smiling. Enjoy!

The world is a very small place. Shannon had found me through a friend which is a connection enough for me; however just prior to our first meeting Shannon lets me know that Ryan thinks we used to work together. Low and behold, who opens the door but my old co-worker from greengate garden centre. It had been almost ten years but he was still the super kind and thoughtful guy I remember. I love when stuff like this happens! All of a sudden my new clients are old friends (yes yes a friendship theme is emerging on this blog!). Anyways, I was quite happy to learn their venue was Cochrane Ranche House as it’s definitely one of my favourite locations. What I will remember from this day is pure joy and love, not just between Ryan and Shannon, but resounding throughout their guests, family and especially bridal party. Their laughter was (for lack of a better word) infectious and I found myself heaving with laughter right along with them. Thank you for a wonderful, beautiful day and for braving the mosquitoes, tyrannosaurus sized at that!
